Gas prices continue to plunge

March 21st, 2020 by WCBC Radio

Gas prices spent another week decreasing at pumps, both locally and nationally. Pump prices in Maryland are 44 cents lower than this time last year. Drivers are seeing some stations selling gas for under $2 in Maryland. Pump prices continue to decline around the country as oil prices have decreased significantly in response to the increasing public health and economic impact of COVID-19 and the crude price war between Russia and Saudi Arabia.

The gas price average in Maryland today is $2.17, which is down respectively nine cents in the last week, 20 cents in the last month, and 44 cents from this date last year.

Today’s national gas price average is $2.17, down respectively 13 cents in the last week, 28 cents in the last month and 41 cents from this time last year. The national average has not dropped to this level since December 2016.

Amazing that prices are now dropping when we’ve been told to stay at home. Watch what happens when the all clear has been given.

The 2015 summer driving season ended with the national average at its lowest point for the Labor Day holiday in more than a decade. In Cumberland, the price is down to to $2.41…down two cents from a week ago.  Gas prices continue to trend downward heading into the second week of September.  Many areas in the Mid-Atlantic region, such as Virginia and New Jersey, are already enjoying gas prices under $2.00 per gallon. Today’s nationwide average is four cents lower than Labor Day’s price at $2.36 per gallon. The national price at the pump reflects a savings of $1.06 per gallon in comparison to the same date last year. Drivers are saving six cents per gallon versus one week ago and 22 cents versus one month ago. Maryland’s average price is three cents lower than the national average at $2.33. The state average is five cents lower than last week, 24 cents less than a month ago, and a $1.05 per gallon lower compared to last year on this date.
