An extensive investigation by the Office of the State Fire Marshal has resulted in a Garrett County Grand Jury indicting Adrienne Joann Renee Moats (24) on arson related charges. Investigators determined she was responsible for setting a fire inside the bedroom of a 1st floor apartment located at 53 Highview Drive in Oakland on November 25, 2015.
The 8:01 p.m. two-alarm fire took 30 firefighters nearly one hour to control. The fire caused extensive damage throughout the single family dwelling converted into three apartments resulting in approximately $500,000.00 in damage to the structure and contents. The investigation revealed Moats previously lived in the apartment but moved several days prior to the fire due to her electric being turned off. Deputy State Fire Marshals determined Moats returned to the apartment and intentionally ignited a fire inside the apartment. The fire was discovered by two other occupants in another apartment and both were able to escape without injuries.
Moats was located in Oakland with the assistance of the Garrett County Sheriff’s Office and transported to the Garrett County Detention Center on three counts of 1st Degree Arson, two counts of Reckless Endangerment and one count of 1st Degree Malicious. She is currently being held on $50,000.00 bond.
