The Cumberland Times News reports a Friendsville man arrested by state police early Monday during an assault investigation had additional charges filed against him when he allegedly set a fire that caused minor damage inside the police barrack in McHenry.
Jeffrey Allen Wiland, 28, was initially charged with two counts of second-degree assault when he was taken into custody at the scene of the 12:05 a.m. incident that occurred in the 1000 block of Blooming Rose Road, Maryland State Police said.
Additional charges of second-degree arson and five counts of malicious destruction of property under $1,000 were filed as a result of the fire damage, police said.
Wiland remained jailed Tuesday at the Garrett County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bond set by a district court commissioner, pending bail review in district court.
The victim of the alleged assault apparently did not require medical treatment.
Alcohol factored in the incident, police said.
