U.S. Rep. Elijah Cummings, who died early Thursday, will be laid to rest next Friday.
A viewing will be held at New Psalmist Baptist Church (6020 Marian Drive) in Baltimore from 8 to 10 a.m., with the service to follow.
The 68-year-old Democrat is being remembered this week as a passionate advocate for Baltimore, civil rights and democracy.
At the discretion of congressional leadership or with the passage of a congressional resolution, Cummings may lay in state in the Rotunda of the U.S. Capitol. Such plans have not yet been announced. The last person to lay in state at the Capitol was former President George H.W. Bush. The last lawmaker to lay in state was Arizona Sen. John McCain, after his death from an aggressive form of brain cancer.
In lieu of flowers, Cummings' family asks that donations be made to the Elijah Cummings Youth Program.
