The Mountain East Conference has released its 2019 football schedule on Monday and Frostburg fans can now view the program's inaugural NCAA Division II slate for the upcoming fall campaign.
Frostburg, which has been a member of NCAA DIII since the fall of 1978, boasts a 11-game schedule with five road matchups and six games at Bobcat Stadium.
The '19 schedule also features three Thursday night games in the month of September, a Homecoming matchup against Urbana on Saturday, Oct. 5 at 1:00 pm and FSU's only nonconference game Saturday, Nov. 9 at home against Kentucky Wesleyan.
The nine Mountain East opponents that Frostburg will face totaled 50 wins last fall with four schools (Notre Dame, Fairmont State, Charleston and W.Va. State) finishing with six or more wins.
The Bobcats open their season on Thursday, Sept. 5 when they host West Virginia State at 7:00 pm at Bobcat Stadium. The meeting with the Yellow Jackets marks the seventh-straight season that FSU opens the season under the lights.
Frostburg travels to Concord to battle the Mountain Lions on Saturday, Sept. 14 at 1:00 pm.
In week three, Frostburg will host West Liberty for the second night game at Bobcat Stadium on Thursday, Sept. 19 at 7:00 pm. The Hilltoppers are the lone opponent on this year's schedule that Frostburg has faced in the past. WLSC holds a 3-2-1 overall edge against FSU, but the Bobcats won the last two meetings in 1985 (23-13) and 1986 (15-6).
Frostburg's third and final night contest of the fall season will take place on the final weekend of September as FSU will travel to Fairmont State for a 7:00 pm kickoff (Sept. 26).
Frostburg State University will host its Homecoming week festivities in early October and the Bobcats will play Urbana on Saturday, Oct. 5 at 1:00 pm.
FSU jumps back on the road on Saturday, Oct. 12 as it visits Buckhannon, W.Va. for a showdown with West Virginia Wesleyan at 1:00 pm.
Charleston (W.Va.) makes its first-ever trip to Frostburg on Saturday, Oct. 19 when the Golden Eagles face the Bobcats at 1:00 pm.
In week eight, Frostburg will visit Wheeling Jesuit on Oct. 26 (1:00 pm) as the Cardinals will play their first season of varsity football in the fall of '19.
Frostburg will host nationally-ranked and 2018 MEC champion Notre Dame on Nov. 2 at 1:00 pm. The Falcons advanced to the NCAA Playoff semifinals a year ago before losing to eventual national champion Valdosta State.
The Bobcats lone non-league tilt of the season will take place on Saturday, Nov. 9 when they host Kentucky Wesleyan at 1:00 pm.
FSU closes its regular season at Glenville State at 1:00 pm on Saturday, Nov. 16.
"Our coaching staff and players are excited about the 2019 schedule release," said Bobcat head coach DeLane Fitzgerald. "The transition has already been a tremendous learning curve, but this coming fall is an opportunity to prove that we can compete in the Mountain East Conference and in NCAA DII. Our coaches and players are going to work very hard this summer to get ourselves ready to compete in one of the best DII conferences in the country. Fall 2019 should be fun for our coaches, players, parents, alumni, and fans!"
