The Frostburg Elks will hold their 40th annual Derby Day on Saturday, July 2nd, 2016.
A driver safety briefing/party will be held on Monday, June 27, at the Elks Lodge, 126 East Main Street, at 6:00 PM. A past drivers and sponsors reception will be held at the Lodge on Friday, July 1, starting at 7:00. Everyone is welcome to attend the reception.
Street entertainment will begin on race day at 10:00AM; and a vendor fair will be set up on Main Street between the Palace Theatre and Broadway.
The opening ceremony will begin at noon Saturday on Main Street and will include the parade of drivers, patriotic songs, the Pledge of Allegiance, and the American Legion Farrady Post 24 Color Guard. Races will begin immediately following.
This year’s Derby will feature approximately 30 “soap box” derby cars sponsored by local businesses and organizations and driven by children ages 9 to 14. In the event of rain, the derby will be held on Monday, July 4th, at noon.
The Derby Day committee wishes to thank all of the community patrons and sponsors who have supported this event throughout the years and invites everyone to come out and experience a hometown “Independence Day” celebration.
