Tomorrow is the first day of school for students in the Allegany County Public School System- however if the state comptroller had his way those kids would have another week off. Comptroller Peter Franchot says that he is not giving up on his idea that would bar public schools from starting the school year for students before Labor Day. Franchot believes that the later start of the school year would help tourism across the state. Even though the idea has had the support of Governor Larry Hogan among others the past few years, lawmakers and school officials have opposed the idea. Franchot says he will push the legislation again during the next general assembly session.
