The unemployment rate in Maryland fell one-tenth-of-a-percent last month to 5.4%, even though the number of jobs fell. Figures released Tuesday from the Maryland Department of Labor and the U.S. Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics shows that total jobs fell by 5,700 last month, with private sector jobs falling by 2,400, and public sector jobs fell by 3,300. State officials do say the state has added more than 32,000 private sector jobs since March of last year. Comptroller Peter Franchot says the slight drop in the unemployment rate cannot mask Maryland’s sluggish economy….
