As we enter tax season, Comptroller Peter Franchot moved Thursday to add another 20 tax preparers to the state's blacklist. His office has suspended processing electronic tax returns from the firms due to a high volume of questionable returns. Of them, 13 are in the Baltimore area- none from the western Maryland area. They join 68 that Franchot still has suspended from last year. The list is being shared with the Internal Revenue Service and other state tax agencies per a nationwide memorandum of understanding. Franchot’s also been sharing information on these tax preparers with prosecutors. He said unfortunately individuals who chose to utilize the services of one of these “questionable” companies are on their own…
