Maryland Governor Larry Hogan last month signed a bill establishing a ban on hydraulic fracturing in the state- making Maryland only the second state in the nation to do so. While the law represented a victory for groups that fought for a fracking ban in Maryland, many elected officials in Allegany and Garrett counties were unhappy saying it would prevent an economic revival in the western region. Maryland’s Secretary of the Environment Ben Grumbles said this was a case of the governor putting environmental concerns above any projected economic gains….
