Mrs. Candy Canan, Principal at Fort Hill High School, along with the faculty and staff, are proud to announce the 2020 induction of 24 sophomores, juniors, and seniors into the National Social Studies Honor Society and the National Spanish Honor Society. Fort Hill is the only high school in Western Maryland to have a chapter of either of these organizations.
The following students were inducted into RHO KAPPA at Fort Hill: (seniors) Haley Ternent; (juniors) Emma Bishop, Ronald Breitfeller, Mac Cohen, William Swink; (sophomores) Brooklyne Noel, Abigayle Spangler.
The following students were inducted into the National Spanish Honor Society: (seniors) Zakary Donaldson, Emma McConnell, Lydia Shepherd; (juniors) Taylor Alexander, Mac Cohen, Cayla Crosser, Olivia Dawson, Dakota Donaldson, DeMar’A Green, Caden Jones, Jada Jones, Sadie Kowalski, Stephen Lawrence, Seyanna Rodney, Arissa Rouzer, Rylan Sensabaugh, Makenna Williams, Cierra Wilson.
The purpose of RHO KAPPA is to encourage interest in, understanding of, and appreciation for the Social Studies. The chapter is intended to enhance the student’s civic education at Fort Hill High School and incentivize participation in advanced academics. The coursework requirements for membership reflect a commitment to the liberal arts and social sciences, which serve as the foundation of civic education. Members will not only deepen their knowledge of the social sciences via chapter activities at school, but also by participating in the chapter service projects and field trips each year.
The National Spanish Honor Society is a national organization, and its goal is to recognize high achievement in Spanish by students and promote continuity of interest in Hispanic studies. All students in this organization are actively enrolled in upper-level Spanish and have fulfilled the requirements necessary for membership.
Ms. Alex Grieves serves as advisor for the National Spanish Honor Society, and Mr. Robby May serves as advisor for Rho Kappa.
