The gang member who prosecutors say dealt drugs and impregnated four guards while incarcerated at a Baltimore jail was sentenced on Monday.
A federal judge sentenced Tavon "Bulldog" White to 12 years in federal prison for his role in the city jail corruption case. He got a reduction from a 20-year maximum sentence for cooperating.
Prosecutors say Tavon White oversaw a drug smuggling operation inside the Baltimore City Detention Center and used contraband cellphones to direct gang activity on the streets.
White recently testified against five corrections officers, a kitchen worker and two inmates who authorities say helped White run the operation. Last week, five of them were found guilty in the scheme, while three were acquitted after a two-month trial.
White testified as part of a plea deal for a reduced sentence. The 37-year-old has pleaded guilty to participating in the racketeering conspiracy.
White had been held for a time in 2013 at the North Branch Correctional Institution in Cresaptown before a federal judge ordered he be held out of state.
