The National Weather Service in Sterling Virginia has issued a * Flash Flood Watch for portions of western Maryland and eastern West Virginia, including the following areas, in western Maryland, Central and Eastern Allegany and Extreme Western Allegany. In eastern West Virginia, Eastern Grant, Eastern Mineral, Western Grant, and Western Mineral. * Until 10 PM EDT this evening * Two rounds of showers and thunderstorms with locally heavy rainfall are expected across the northern Potomac Highlands through this evening. The first round is activity developing late this morning which will continue into the afternoon hours. A trough will move into the area late this afternoon and evening with more widespread showers and thunderstorms expected. Rainfall of 1 to 3 inches are expected. One hour flash flood guidance is in this area is 0.75 to 1.0 inch, so slow moving, heavy showers or thunderstorms could cause flash flooding. * Flash flooding risk is for small streams particularly in urban areas like Cumberland. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation. You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action should Flash Flood Warnings be issued.
