On 4-16-2016 at 1637 hours, troopers from the Cumberland Barrack responded to east bound Interstate 68 at the 64 mile marker for a fatal motorcycle accident involving a Flinstone man. When troopers arrived, it was determined that the operator, James Allan Rice, of Flinstone, Maryland, was operating a 2004 Harley Davidson east bound just east of M.V. Smith Road. Mr. Rice failed to negotiate a right hand curve in the roadway and subsequently lost control of the motorcycle. The vehicle crashed into the center median and came to rest in the roadway. As a result of the crash, Mr. Rice was fatally injured. No other vehicles or persons were involved in the collision.
Troopers on scene were assisted by the flight crew of Trooper 5, Flinstone and Little Orleans Volunteer Fire Companies and also the Maryland State Highway Administration.
