The contract clause that requires Allegany County Public Schools to pay for healthcare coverage for Dr. David Cox and his wife through the time they are eligible for the Medicare Supplemental program goes back further than the ten year term of Dr. Cox.
WCBC News requested, and received, a copy of the applicable section of the contract of former Superintendent Dr. William AuMiller, and that document had similar language.
Tonight, the Allegany County Board of Education could ratify a separation agreement with Dr. Cox, who is due to start as Director of Schools in Sullivan County, Tennessee on August 1st. That Dr Cox will be taking a position with another system does not absolve Allegany County from paying the negotiated healthcare benefit.
Details of the separation agreement have not been made public. However, we have been told that the insurance provision may be part of a buyout agreement with Dr. Cox.
