The Cumberland Times News reports that a Mineral County school bus driver at Elk Garden School was assaulted, leading to the arrest of an Elk Garden man late Monday According to the Mineral County Sheriff's Office, Billie Joe Duckworth, 41, was charged with assault of a school board employee, destruction of property and public intoxication following investigation of the alleged incident that occurred about 4 p.m., after school had dismissed. No students were on the property at the time.
The sheriff's office said Duckworth had engaged in a verbal altercation with the bus driver in the school parking lot. Duckworth allegedly kicked and damaged a wall of a nearby residence, leading to the destruction of property charge.
Capt. J.J. Wingler said investigation of the matter led to the on-scene arrest of Duckworth, who was located in the immediate area and taken into custody without incident.
Duckworth remained jailed Tuesday at the Potomac Highlands Regional Jail in Augusta following arraignment by Mineral County Magistrate Pat Amoroso, who set cash or surety bond at $2,000.
