With Charlie Evans, Governor Larry Hogan’s pick to head the Department of Natural Resources, withdrawing his name from consideration for the position, State Senator George Edwards is once again viewed as a serious candidate for the post. Evans pulled his named last month citing unspecified health concerns. Edwards, who serves on the Senate Budget and Taxation Committee, has been a member of the state Senate since January 2007. Before that, he was a member of the House of Delegates from January 1983 to January 2007. Edwards confirmed to WCBC News that he was interviewed for the position this past weekend, but declined to comment further saying only that there has been a great deal of speculation about his getting the cabinet post.
