Once again the idea of major changes for the Canal Place Preservation and Development Authority has been brought to the table for discussion. Last week members of the Western Maryland legislative delegation informed the authority board members that they plan to form a task force to study the future of Canal Place- and at least one of the options could be its elimination. Owned by the state, Canal Place was established in 1993. The 11-acre property features the railway station, two structures containing shops, a canal boat replica, festival grounds and the Footer’s Dye Works Building. Over the years the state has invested an estimated $30 million in various Canal Place projects.
