Early voting for the special election to continue Keyser’s excess street levy began March 8th and continues through Wednesday. The levy, which has been in existence for many years, is used to maintain the city’s streets. It comes up for renewal every three years, and the current levy expires on July 1, 2019. The ballot this year will be to approve or deny the levy at the current rate; there will be no increases in the taxation rates. Money raised through the levy is used to “widen, grade, repair, surface and resurface, storm drain line replacement and to otherwise improve the existing public streets within the corporation limits of Keyser,” according to the ballot. The date for the special election is Saturday, March 23, and early voting will continue through March 20.
