Dr. Ed Root was officially sworn in as the newest member of the Allegany County Board of Education in ceremonies Wednesday afternoon at the board office on Washington Street. Root, a former member of both the local and state board’s of education, was appointed last week by Governor Larry Hogan to fill the vacant seat resulting from the state removing Wayne Foote from the board. The past year has seen a divided board, routinely voting 3-2 on key issues, and often times engaging in heated debates in both public and closed sessions.
