Last week, District 1C Delegate Mike McKay went on the record, telling WCBC News that he would be interested in becoming Allegany County Register of Wills should there become a vacancy in that office.
Incumbent Rebecca Drew is not expected to seek another term, and there is speculation she may step down before the end of her current term.
Of course, that has the local political hot stove cranked up. If McKay would get the Register of Wills position, then who would become delegate for the remainder of his term? Because District 1C is in both Allegany and Washington Counties, nominations for a replacement would involve the Central Committees from both counties.
If a replacement delegate would come from the ranks of current elected officials, then who would replace the replacement, and would that replacement then need to be replaced.
McKay is in his first term in Annapolis, replacing three term Delegate LeRoy Myers, who is now a Washington County Commissioner and married to former Cumberland City Councilwoman Nicole Alt Myers, who has been rumored as a candidate for the seat in 2018.
