As recently as last week organizers of the annual DelFest event were holding out hope that the traditional Memorial Day weekend musical festival could go on as scheduled- but with COVID-19 continuing to spread- the family has decided to postpone. Rob McCoury, son of Bluegrass legend Del McCoury and a member of the Travelin’ McCourys, serves as President of McCoury Festivals. He tells WCBC News that at this time they can say with certainty that having the event on Memorial Day weekend is not a possibility- and they are looking into the possibility of moving it later this summer or postponing until 2021. Although the decision to postpone was announced on the same day that the first virus cases were reported in Allegany County- Rob says that that was more of a coincidence than anything else as organizers were not aware of that information when the decision was made.
He says that once a final decision has been made, announcements regarding how tickets are impacted as well as what other options may be available will be released. McCoury said they are talking with local, regional, and state authorities every few days to gather as much information as possible so that the best decision foe everyone involved can be made.

Hope we can get by without the annual influx of a slightly better class of hillbillies.
