After interviewing the two finalists for Cumberland Police chief- Mayor Ray Morriss tells WCBC News he would expect a decision as soon as this week. Chief Charles Hinnant retired from the post Nov. 1 and while there were a total of 18 candidates who applied for the opening- it was Cumberland Police Capt. Chuck Ternent, who is serving as the department’s interim chief, and Captain Thomas Langston of the Hagerstown Police Department who emerged as the finalists. Each were interviewed last week and also took part in a meet and greet with the general public. Morriss was part of the police chief search committee, which included Councilwoman Laurie Marchini, City Administrator Jeff Rhodes, city attorney Mike Cohen and Mark Sroka, chief of police for the Gaithersburg Police Department. The mayor tells WCBC News that both men are eminently qualified to lead the city’s law enforcement operation….
