The deadline has now passed to submit an application to become the next downtown mall manager, but before interviews begin, a committee of all involved parties is expected to clearly delineate the charges and objectives for the job. The position has been somewhat in a state of flux in recent years with several people serving for relatively short periods- and it has been vacant since December. The subject was discussed at length during this month’s meeting of the Downtown Development Commission. DDC chair Sandra Saville discussed the changing scope of the position, noting that the $9.6 million redesign of the mall, slated to begin in March, will clearly become a top priority. The DDC, the Cumberland Economic Development Corporation and the city of Cumberland are all invested in the mall project- and all interested in having significant input with the hire.
