Cumberland Police Make Several Arrests Wednesday

On December 20, 2017 the Cumberland Police responded to the area of Bridge Street and Greene Street for a disturbance.  When police arrived they found Brian Elsworth Johnson in a no trespassing area within a construction zone of the former gazebo.  The area was clearly marked as a no trespassing area.  He was arrested and issued a criminal citation for Trespassing on Posted Property.  He was released pending trial in District Court.

Charges:  Trespassing on Posted Property

Assault Arrest

On December 20, 2017 the Cumberland Police responded to a business on Queen City Drive for an assault complaint.  When police arrived they observed Deron Michael Elbin causing a disturbance in front of the store.  Further investigation revealed an employee of the business observed Elbin attempting to steal items from inside the store.  The employee confronted Elbin, at which time Elbin displayed a knife.  Elbin then assaulted an adult male customer who was in line to pay for merchandise.  Elbin was arrested and charged with 2nd Degree Assault, Theft Under $100, and Disorderly Conduct.  He was taken before a District Court Commissioner where he was held on $20,000 bond.  Elbin was transported to the Allegany County Detention Center to await his next appearance in District Court.  There were no injuries to anyone involved in the incident.

Charges:  2nd Degree Assault, Theft Under $100, and Disorderly Conduct  

Fugitive Arrest

On December 20, 2017 the Cumberland Police responded to a suspicious complaint in the 300 block of Davidson Street.  While police were conducting their investigation they learned Michael Kevin Deter had an active arrest warrant through Mineral County, West Virginia for Forgery of Credit Card with Intent to Defraud.  He was placed under arrest and charged as a Non-Criminal Charge Against Fugitive.  He was taken to the Allegany County Detention Center to await extradition proceedings.

Charges:  Non-Criminal Charge Against Fugitive

Theft Arrest

On December 20, 2017 at approximately 6:29 PM the Cumberland Police responded to a business on Queen City Drive in reference to a theft complaint.  When police arrived they learned employees of the store witnessed Thomas Edward House steal several items from the store.  House was still in the area and he was placed under arrest.  He was issued a criminal citation for Theft Under $100 and was released pending trial in District Court.

Thomas Edward House:  40, Cumberland, MD

Charges:  Theft Under $100
