On December 24, 2016 at 2:50 am, officers from the Cumberland Police Department responded to the 200 block of Baltimore Ave. for a disturbance.
When officers arrived they located a female yelling for help out of a second story window. Officer forced entry into the building and located the female victim and the suspect, James Gunn, age 45, Cumberland, MD. Upon contacting the victim and Gunn, officers began an investigation into the incident.
Officers found through the investigation that an argument had occurred between the victim and Gunn. The argument escalated into a physical altercation where the victim was punched and strangled. Officer further found that the Gunn refused to allow the victim to leave the apartment. At the completion of the investigation Gunn was placed under arrest.
Gunn was transported to the Cumberland Police Department where he was charged with Assault 1st degree, Assault 2nd degree, false imprisonment, and Destruction of Property.
