Pump prices continue to tumble across the Mid-Atlantic region heading into the Fourth of July holiday weekend, dropping below Christmas 2016 prices and plunging to their lowest for the holiday in 12 years. Many areas in the Mid-Atlantic, including Maryland, have dipped up to five cents from last week, following the national trend. Record refinery rates, high gasoline and crude inventory, and less-than-favorable demand this year are among the contributing factors causing the downward price trend.
Today’s national average of $2.24 is four cents cheaper than a week ago, 13 cents cheaper than a month ago and just five cents away from the same date last year. The national gas price average has dropped for 35 consecutive days and is three cents below last year’s July 4th average of $2.27.
