Cumberland CSX Hump Expected To Be Leveled

January 23rd, 2018 by WCBC Radio

WCBC News is hearing from multiple sources that "The Hump" that had been used to assemble trains in CSX's Cumberland yard may be leveled in a matter of weeks.

The local hump was taken out of service last spring, shortly after the arrival of the now late CEO Hunter Harrison.  Harrison preferred flat track switching to assemble trains, and took all but a few humps out of service at the railroad.  New CEO Jim Foote is a Harrison protege and is expected to continue many of the policies and changes that Harrison had put into motion.

While it certainly signals an end of an era, what it means in the big picture is subject to intepretation.  It may represent a positiive for the Cumberland operation, in that leveling the hump here, and perhaps associated buildings, would represent a commitment to the facility.
