Cumberland Could Feel “Trickle Down” Effect Of Luke Paper Mill Closure

The loss of the Luke Paper Mill will mean a hit of more than $300,000 in property tax revenues for Allegany County. While it is obvious the county and towns such as Luke and Westernport near the plant will feel definite negative impacts- the effects on Cumberland are not as clearly defined. City Administrator Jeff Rhodes, during a recent public work session, said the biggest fiscal hit to Cumberland as a result of the mill closing could be less financial assistance being available from the county- calling it a “trickle down” effect…
