In a letter from CSX Transportation to Cumberland city solitor Michael Cohen sent this week- CSX claims that two of the city's aging West Side bridges are obsolete and that the city has actually contributed to their deteriorated condition by violating weight restrictions imposed on the spans. The letter dated November 13th said designs of bridges on Washington and Fayette streets are no longer functional for the company. CSX attorney Jason Marques also said the city contributed to the poor condition of the bridges by allowing vehicles that exceeded the bridges' weight rating to pass over the spans. The letter further states that the city has not been receptive to any of CSX’s proposed solutions. A meeting between CSX and local officials had been set for November 29th- but that has now been postponed. Mayor Brian Grim says despite the city’s best efforts in recent years- CSX has not been less than cooperative…
