A pre-dawn blaze Saturday that destroyed a vacant Brant Road home remains under investigation by the Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office. Investigators report the fire, which reportedly started in the basement, caused about $30,000 in damage to the structure. The Cumberland Times News reports it was the second time in a little more than two months that firefighters were called to the home, which is owned by Suzette Futts, the fire marshal's office said. A fire was extinguished there on June 11. Cresaptown firefighters reportedly found the structure engulfed in flames at the rear of the 1 1/2-story dwelling shortly after the 3:07 a.m. alarm. There were no injuries reported during the fire operation directed by Cresaptown Fire Chief Chris Cage.Anyone with information is asked to contact the fire marshal's office at 301-766-3888.
