According to Maryland State Police, the driver was no injured when a crane in transport overturned on Route 495 at Interstate 68 early Wednesday afternoon.
Police said Herbert Wolf Jr., 50, of Oakland, was operating a 2013 Peterbilt crane from eastbound I-68 onto the exit ramp to southbound 495. As he was attempting to negotiate the left-hand turn in the ramp, the vehicle traveled off the left roadside and overturned onto Route 495.
Wolf was not injured, police said.
The Cumberland Times News reports Beitzel Corporation, owner of the crane, then responded to the scene with a second crane and uprighted the overturned 72,000-lb. crane, with the assistance of Grantsville Truck and Trailer, police said.
One lane of Route 495 was blocked for about four hours while the accident was cleared.
State police were assisted by the State Highway Administration, Grantsville Volunteer Fire Department, Garrett County Emergency Management and the state police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division.
