The Cumberland Times News reports a planned opening date of May 26, 2016 has been set for a Cracker Barrel Old Country Store and Restaurant in LaVale, said Janella Escobar, a spokeswoman for the company. "We have received all of our permits. We're looking forward to being part of your community," Escobar said. Allegany County commissioners in March approved a road closing petition to make way for the Cracker Barrel. The move is usually used for roads which exist on paper but are in reality non-existent or unused. The process usually has little significance, except to the landowners near the roads. The road openings and closings are mostly a technicality needed to clear up issues related to property rights. In this case, Lincoln Street, a 40-foot street, was opened and closed to clear the way for the restaurant. Cracker Barrel is 100 percent corporate-owned and the company does not franchise its restaurants, Escobar has said. The company is based in Lebanon, Tennessee and operates more than 600 locations in 42 states. The location of the restaurant is on a tract behind CVS and Arby’s and near a Holiday Inn Express.
