A criminal summons was issued for the former occupants of the home at 661 Greene St. where 33 dogs were rescued by the Allegany County Animal Shelter on June 13. Robert Lee Detrick, 71, and Carol Jean Detrick, 61, have up to 66 animal cruelty charges each included in the criminal summons filed by C3I, according to online District Court of Maryland records. The couple, described by one official as “animal hoarders” will be issued the summons when they are located. Dr Becky Beaton, a nationally renowned psychologist who frequently appears on the television program “Hoarders: Buried Alive” talked with WCBC News about the how these situations often develop. Although not familiar with this specific case, Dr Beaton emphasized that animal hoarding should be viewed as a mental illness and can become an addiction.
