County’s Property Purchase Represents “Exciting Economic Development Opportunity” Says Shade

In late January, the Allegany County Commissioners took action to officially purchase nearly 260 acres of the 800-acre property formerly known as Cumberland Chase following formal price negotiations with landowner Summit Community Bank. After previous developers ran into financial troubles, Summit Community Bank of Moorefield, West Virginia, foreclosed on the property in 2010. Summit has since started selling off portions of the land in an effort to gain return on the $3.5 million foreclosure. Allegany County Commissioners President Jake Shade said the purchase represents an exciting economic development opportunity for the county…
