County Working On Plans To Absorb Frostburg Area Ambulance System

May 18th, 2017 by WCBC Radio

In April the Frostburg Area Ambulance System reached out to Allegany County to explore the idea of the county taking over those operations. Dick DeVore, director of emergency services for  Allegany County, has since been working on plans to see the county system absorb the Frostburg operation.  Frostburg ambulance service handles about 2,000 calls annually and has been challenged to maintain its operation with declining revenue and a decreasing number of volunteers. County Commissioner Bill Valentine said those plans are moving forward and close to finalizing. Meanwhile, talks have begun between Allegany County and the City of Cumberland to consider a similar plan- although those talks have not advanced beyond the preliminary stage.
