Contracted Snow Removal In Downtown To Continue

January 26th, 2016 by WCBC Radio

City of Cumberland public works crews will be working overtime during the next several days to continue to move snow to widen streets throughout the city and open parking areas.

“All main streets are now open,” according to Dave Curry, Operations Manager, “but crews will continue to work to clear and widen all streets and clean up intersections.  In addition, crews will also concentrate efforts today on opening school entrances and hard-to-get-to areas that may take extra measures to reach.”

Curry further noted that a city crew is also working today in the Centre Street area of the downtown to open parking areas.  The City will continue to contract with Carl Belt, Inc. to haul snow from the downtown area tonight and tomorrow night, January 26 and January 27, from 7:00 PM until 7:00 AM.

Last night, snow was hauled from the area of Harrison Street and Centre Street.  Tonight and tomorrow night the targeted business areas will include Mechanic and Centre Streets from the Centre Street viaduct to Wendy’s, including all connecting streets, as well as the area of George and Union Streets, and Butler Alley.

Citizens and businesses are asked to assist with the snow removal by moving their vehicles from affected streets during this time period.  Free parking in the George Street garage will be available throughout this week and citizens are encouraged to utilize this facility for parking.

With warmer temperatures expected to help melt the accumulation, the City asks for continued patience as the City works to clean up the streets from this major snow event.
