The Allegany County Commissioners, during tonight’s public meeting, are expected to award a contract to an Indianapolis based firm to conduct an Economic Development Strategic Plan. The contract amount is for $121,000 and will see Thomas P. Miller and associates perform the study and develop strategies. The action is similar to one taken by the city of Cumberland several years ago with an outside consultant retained to map out a plan. That study has led to, among other things, plans for commercial development in the Rolling Mill area- and re-opening the downtown mall to vehicular traffic. There are currently more than a dozen groups and organizations in the region looking at economic development, County Commission President Jake Shade said this action will see provide a more focused, streamlined approach to the issue…
