Commissioners Approve Scholarships from Rocky Gap Money

The Allegany County commissioners Thursday approved a memorandum of understanding with the Allegany College of Maryland Foundation to create a scholarship program. The scholarship will be funded by way of  allocating slots revenue from the Rocky Gap Casino Resort. business meeting Thursday evening.  The plan has been discussed for several months now, and was made official last night.  Most of the money will go to scholarships for Allegany County students enrolled at Allegany College of Maryland and Frostburg State University. The amount of money is expected to be about $700,000 for the current fiscal year. The plan divides the scholarship money with 45 percent going to the ACM Foundation and 25 percent to the FSU Foundation. The idea was first brought to the table by Commissioner Bill Valentine:
