As pledged earlier this year, Allegany County is providing some financial assistance for municipalities to eliminate blight. The city of Cumberland plans to utilize a Community Enhancement grant to tear down four properties in the 300 block of Arch Street to provide handicap accessible housing. The commissioners approved the $50,000 program grant for the acquisition and demolition of the four Arch Street properties. The grant was awarded to the city for the four properties at 301-309 Arch Street, which includes three duplexes and a single family dwelling.
