The actual numbers won’t be known until the city gets more deeply involved in its budget discussions- but there will be an increase in trash bills for Cumberland residents. The Mayor and City Council last week agreed to a new three year contract with Burgmeier Hauling- a deal which represents a 30 percent increase over the current terms. Jeff Rhodes, city administrator, says budget meetings for fiscal 2020 begin in April- and as is always the case- those talks will include a review of water, sewer and trash rates. Until then, he says it is difficult to speculate on how much of a hike will be necessary…

Surely the city can find another way to resolve this than to raise our bills. Our rates are high enough as it is. How do they expect people to afford to survive.

Is all that Rhodes knows how to do is raise cost to the City’s residents? Seems to be and has been the trend @ City Hall.

I don’t know city rates but taking 3 bags to the landfill each week will cost, in 1 months time $12.00. That is a yearly cost of $144.00.
What is the trash removal charge for Cumberland?

I feel that the City can save tons on trash costs, by simply going to a once a week collection. It always seems to go on deafs ears, though?! Half the collection = half the costs.
