On Wednesday, October 23rd, 2019 the Cumberland Police Department responded an E. Second Street residence for a disturbance. When officers arrived, contact was made with a female victim who stated that she got into an argument with Joseph Wilson Butler inside of her residence and when she asked him to leave, the altercation became physical. She alleged that Butler then forced her to the ground and began choking her. She managed to get Butler out of her front door at which time Butler pulled a knife and began waving it at her. The officers did observed injuries to the victim’s neck consistent with her statement. Butler was arrested and charged with 1st and 2nd degree assault and reckless endangerment. He was taken to the Allegany County Detention Center to await a bond review before the District Court Commissioner.

On Thursday, December 20th, 2018, The Cumberland City Police responded to a Prospect Square address for the report of an assault in the residence. Once on scene, Officer contacted the parties involved. It was learned that two family members were in the home trying to complete repairs on the residence when an altercation began. The altercation turned physical and a male victim received injuries during the alleged assault. As a result of the officer’s investigation, Anthony L. Chalkwater was placed under arrest for assault and transported to the station for processing. He was taken before the District Court Commissioner for his initial appearance where he was released on his own personal recognizance.

Charges: Assault Second Degree
