On Tuesday at 2:51pm officers with the Cumberland Police Department responded to the area of Bedford St at Henderson Ave in reference to a motor vehicle collision. Upon arrival Officers contacted several witnesses who advised that they observed a pickup truck strike a utility pole and come to rest on a brick wall. Witnesses stated that the operator fled the scene on foot. A broadcast containing the suspect description was issued. Officers in the area located the suspect a short distance away from the accident scene and were able to positively identify them as the operator. As a result Officers placed 29 year old Brandon Giles of Frostburg under arrest. While searching Giles incident to arrest Officers located suspected CDS and CDS paraphernalia on his person. Giles was transported to the Cumberland Police Dept where he was charged with CDS possession not marijuana, CDS possession of drug paraphernalia, driving on a suspended license, leaving the scene of a property damage accident, and several other traffic violations. Giles was taken for an initial appearance at District Court where he was held on a $4,500 bail pending his next court appearance.
