On Monday, October 24, 2016, an officer from the Cumberland Police Department conducted a traffic stop in the Park Street area. A police K-9 unit was utilized to scan the vehicle for the presence of illegal drugs.
During the course of the stop, the suspect, Daniel Alphonso Howell, exited the vehicle and refused to cooperate with officers. Howell hindered the investigation and attempted to walk away while he was being detained. Howell then resisted arrest. Officers were able to gain control of Howell and restrain him.
Further investigation revealed that Howell was in possession of 99 individual baggies of suspected heroin (36 grams) and 150 individual baggies of cocaine (46 grams). Howell was placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters.
Daniel Alphonso Howell was taken to District Court for his initial appearance and was held at the Allegany County Detention Center on $500,000.00.
