State’s Attorney for Allegany County, the Honorable Michael Twigg, , announced on Thursday, that James Patrick Law, 48 of Cumberland, was convicted by a jury of one count of felony theft having a value of $1,000 to under $10,000, following a trial. The investigation revealed that on August 6, 2014, a Cumberland Street home was burglarized. Two days later, Law sold some of the items taken during the burglary to a local business on Greene Street. The Honorable W. Timothy Finan, Allegany County Circuit Court Judge, revoked Law’s bond and remanded him to the custody of the Allegany County Sheriff pending the completion of a pre-sentencing investigation. According to Assistant State’s Attorney Erich Bean, who prosecuted the case, “If you try to sell or pawn items, which you know or should know are stolen, even at the request of another person, that is theft and you will be prosecuted.” The case was investigated by C3I and the Cumberland City Police Department.
