On Thursdayat 12:15 pm, a Cumberland City Police Officer on patrol observed a disturbance involving several individuals at the corner of Race and East First Street. The officer made contact with one of the individuals involved who was identified as Christopher Butler, age 26 of Cumberland. Butler continued to be loud and disruptive and was repeatedly advised by the officer to lower his voice has he was disturbing the neighbors. Butler refused and was placed under arrest. During the arrest process, Butler took a swing at one of the officers and kicked a second officer. When secured, Butler was placed in the transport vehicle. As the officer was placing the seatbelt on Butler, he twice spat on the officer. Butler was transported to the Cumberland City Police Department where he was processed and served. He was later taken to the Allegany County District Court Commissioner’s Office for a bond hearing where he was released on his personal recognizance. No officers were injured.
