City man arrested for attempting to intimidate witnesses

October 21st, 2016 by WCBC Radio

Members of the C3I Warrant/Fugitive Unit arrested 23 year old James Elmer Milton Jr., of Cumberland, on Friday, 10/21/2016, after a warrant had been issued for his arrest in connection with an incident that occurred at a hearing in Circuit Court earlier in the week.   Milton was attending a court hearing for one of the defendants involved in the shooting incident that occurred at Fort Cumberland Homes on 03/30/2016. At that time, Milton used his cellular phone to record parts of the hearing. He later posted that recording to social media in an attempt to intimidate witnesses involved in the prosecution of the case.

An investigation into the incident was conducted by the Allegany County State's Attorney's Office and C3I, before a bench warrant was issued by a Circuit Court Judge.

Milton was charged under the Court & Judicial Proceedings article with Contempt of Court, and is currently being held at the Allegany County Detention Center pending an appearance before a Circuit Court Judge.

Allegany County State's Attorney Michael O. Twigg stated, "This type of intimidation will not be tolerated and this office will prosecute anyone who attempts to influence the judicial process."
