Despite claims to the contrary, Cumberland Mayor Brian Grim says the city has no plans to exercise eminent domain powers to remove homeowners from the Rolling Mill area. Plans are on the table to turn that section of town into a commercial development area- with a national chain restaurant anchoring several other retail ventures. While the majority of the property owners have struck a deal with the city to sell their homes to the city- about a dozen remain, some of those strongly opposed to relocating. The project is being coordinated by the Cumberland Economic Development Corporation. A joint statement released by several groups opposed to the project claimed that the city is planning to invoke eminent domain powers if necessary. Mayor Grim says that is not the case….
