Citizens Bring Concerns on CSX Bridge to City Council

Amid news reports this week that CSX Transportation exploring the idea of demolishing the Washington Street bridge, several citizens brought their concerns to the Cumberland City Council Tuesday night.  Primary concerns center on the lack of access for emergency responders and the dismantling of the streets. The closing, or removal, of the bridges would create several dead ends for vehicle and pedestrian travel. In addition to the news about the Washington Street bridge, city engineers are currently creating detour plans for the closing of the deteriorating Cumberland Street bridge.  A third CSX bridge, on Fayette Street, is in poor condition but has not yet been deemed necessary for closure.  Local business leader John Balch, a Washington Street resident, urged the city officials to take legal action against CSX…
