The deadline to file to run in this year’s election in February 27th- and while some local races have been slow to develop- the list of candidates seeking a seat on Cumberland’s City Council is growing. In the past week, incumbent council member Richard Rock Cioni and Seth Bernard filed, joining Wayne Hedrick and John Fetchero. There are also four candidates for mayor: Lawrence Becker; Raymond Dye; George Merling; and David Smith. Mayor Brian Grim has not yet decided whether or not he will seek another term.
1:10 PM UPDATE
Councilman Cioni had earlier hinted that if Grim opted not to run again, he could throw his hat in the ring for the mayor’s seat. Cioni now says he will not run for mayor, no matter what decision Grim makes.
